Yaqi Ghost Titanium DE Razor (2)

Yaqi Ghost Titanium DE Razor (3)

Yaqi Ghost Titanium DE Razor (4)

Just released from what I can see a new titanium razor from Yaqi. The handle looks nice, I like brushes/matte finishes and I think though similar to the Henson head it potentially different enough not to be a direct copy. (I’m sure others may see a resemblance to other razors though I’ve missed). 57g with a blade gap of 0.7mm
It comes out as £125ish for me if I were to buy it which though not as cheap as the Shield titanium razors is still a good deal cheaper than most.

Looks like a cross between the Paradigm Salient and the Merica razor. Not particularly original, but I‘m sure it‘s an excellent shaver.

The head is different but the handle is a copy of the WSC/Yates Merica.

Yaqi Ghost Titanium DE Razor (8)

My Ti Merica arrived the day before Yaqi released the Ghost.

I don't know, but I can't accept the fact that YAQI just steals everything from the others and doesn't even try to change something or create something on their own.

That's why I don't and won't use any razors from YAQI even if it's good shavers.

Agreed. Actually it makes it very easy for me as I am not in the slightest bit tempted. Just the mention of Yaqi turns me off entirely.

@Bauhaus @Ventastic They do blatantly copy some things (especially the Vostok, Sputnik and Sentinel heads), but this head design seems to be different enough from current offerings to not be considered such a copy.

I'm sure you'll find some similarities to other designs there, but then they are DE blade holders after over a century of variations on the theme, so you're bound to find some.

I think it's similar with the Telstar, Slope and Trifecta, too.

@slapo Yes, indeed, all razors are essentially just holders for DE or SE blades, and the market has seen many variations of them over the past century. However, the hype and reputation surrounding YAQI are often rooted in accusations of copying designs from other established brands. For example: from Blackland, from Wolfman, a LOT from Razorock. I found the YAQI when they just offered a couple of heads/handles and many people know them for their shaving brushes. But then, they turned on the copy/paste mode trying to offer the best razors on the market for an "affordable price" in a Chinese way. Anyway, it's just my thoughts, nothing more.

@Bauhaus Fair enough.
My thought was that by buying those that aren't obvious copies of what other manufacturers make is a way of showing them that people don't appreciate design theft.
Ignoring the company is another one, though, and just as valid. Yaqi Ghost Titanium DE Razor (14)

Just seen the Merica handle and it’s absolutely a clear copy. The head however not really. I don’t approve of the copying they seem intent on doing at the moment but from all accounts it isn’t just a ‘Chinese’ problem. Razorock doesn’t seem to get half the criticism Yaqi does, nor does anybody else that makes a EJ89/MuhleR89 head style razor.

You're right.
It's one thing to make a single copy of a popular and iconic razor head like the EJ89/MuhleR89. But it's different when a whole company builds its reputation by consistently copying others' designs and only occasionally tries to create something original. That's why Yaqi receives more criticism. They produce a lot, but there are also many complaints about the quality. For example, some people have mentioned issues with the adjustable ring on the Yaqi razor just doesn’t work. In the end, a company's reputation relies on its commitment to quality and innovation, not just imitation.

I agree with this. Copying is copying, whether you do it once or multiple times. And i find nothing wrong with it. If the guys from whom they copy don't really bother, I see no reason why I should. Plus they have made things super affordable for the masses . Where else can one get a full Ti razor for 120 USD?

And lest we forget, their brushes are fabulous!
